Southill Primary School

"A caring, family school"

Values & Values Education

Southill Lower School is a Values school.

We respect ourselves; we respect others; we respect our environment

Each month we focus on a different Value that makes up our school ethos.

The children are awarded a leaf when they are seen to be living the values.  These are awarded and celebrated in a weekly assembly held on Friday afternoon by Mrs. Read.  Parents are also encouraged to nominate children for living the values outside of school. In addition we like to celebrate children's other out of school achievements (e.g. sport awards). We have a half termly sharing assembly where all parents and carers are invited to attend in the morning to watch their children explain about their learning during the previous six weeks.

In addition to the values leaves, the Executive head also gives out awards to individuals each week in class for nominated great work or attitudes to learning and we post a picture of this in the main hall. Finally we are pleased that each month Reverend Caren comes to talk to the children on a theme of the current value, often linked to a religious learning. This is designed to help the children build on the cultural capital of religious knowledge and also to help embed the values into daily choices.
